$625 | Exquisite 1992 release from Lladró of Spain. Entitled "Voyage of Columbus", this piece features 3 children admiring a globe in which 3 ships are sailing across. Whether the 3 ships are "actually" on the globe or being imagined by the children is unclear. Beautifully detailed as Lladró is famous for. Looking closely reveals stitching on pockets, flowers on dress hems and beautiful foliage all in a glossy finish. This piece was limited to 7,500 worldwide at which point the mold was destroyed. All 7,500 were sold and the piece was officially retired the very next year. This can now only be obtained on the secondary market, hopefully finding a fellow collector willing to part with this beautiful work of art. This particular figurine is number 2068; the enclosed certificate names the artists as Francisco Polope (sculptor) and Angelita Cabo (decorator). Polope is the sculptor behind such notable pieces as "Cinderella's Arrival" and "Great Dragon". Measuring 9 1/2" wide and standing 9 3/4" tall, "Voyage of Columbus" has a substantial presence and is beautiful viewed from any angle. Exceptional condition as it was lovingly cared for by the original owner and long-time collector of Lladró (my father). What an amazing gift this would be. No cracks, breaks, crazing or repairs. Superbly packed in it's original box with accompanying framed certificate and beautiful wood base. |
