A young boy from the Andes is preparing to play his flute. He is wearing a brown and dark red trimmed pancho, dark red sandals, and a dark hat from which his curly hair is poking out.
The Andes are on the western side of South America. The flute he is playing is not a single, long tube as is often associated with the flute today. Rather, it is a Zampona (or Siku) consisting of multiple tubes of different lengths strung together. This traditional panpipe is from the Andes and dates to pre-Inca times.
