Lladro figurine-Elephant Family-#04764-retired in 1975, rare
Lladro created several different elephant figurines over the years, some only subtly different from others, THIS MODEL IS especially valuable because it was issued in 1971 and more importantly it's been retired from production since 1975, almost 40 years, making it hard to find, plus most other Lladro pieces depicting a group of elephants have the largest of the three elephants leading the way, but in this one, the largest of the three elephants is in the rear. I have no paperwork nor box, ONLY the figurine is included in the auction. The item was bought several decades ago by a relative of mine visiting Barcelona, and paperwork/boxes tend to get discarded over that much time. LOOKING UP THIS ITEM ELSEWHERE TO VERIFY INFO: Well, for starters, If you type the last four digits of the Item# (4764) into the search bar in the upper right corner of the Lladro website, then what you will see is the Elephant Family piece, but THAT piece has a matte finish, the model number differs from mine by a single digit and also by a later retirement year…Lladro has been known to make slight variations to the finish of certain otherwise identical pieces. My piece has a glazed finish…you see, Lladro figurines are made from a blend of hard-paste porcelain and some of them are finished with a special "glaze" made from a concoction held secret by the corporation, accounting for the lustrous shine! The Lladro site occasionally only displays a single version of certain retired pieces although some of those pieces have more than one version, particularly in terms of their finish…again, the Elephant Family piece on the Lladro website has a matte finish, while mine has a glazed finish…so where can you find my piece? Lladro endorses a woman in the secondary market, Janet Gale Hammer who is an official source for retired Lladro pieces, simply search the name, “Janet Gale Hammer” online through your regular search engine and you will see a link for her website displaying her A Retired Collection LLC, at which point, type in the 4764 item# in the appropriate area, and you’ll see my item with the glazed finish and the 1975 retirement year, and you’ll also see that it sells for $1,395.00 which is as accurate a value as one can get. |
